Visitors are welcome to take photographs during normal museum opening hours. This means that any private individual or professional is free to use an ordinary stills or video camera in the museum, providing it does not require a stand or tripod.
Please note that the use of flash is NOT permitted in the picture galleries. Visitors are welcome to take pictures (with or without a flash) anywhere else in the museum, including the sculpture galleries.
The Glyptotek receives numerous applications from professionals who wish to photograph, conduct interviews or film in the museum. In such cases, the following guidelines apply:
A Permit for Photography Using a Stand Will be Issued:
- When pictures are taken that will serve to publicise the museum’s buildings and works of art (press, magazines, professional journals, tourist information, etc.).
- For professional photographers, whose work may be considered for use by the Glyptotek.
- In the case of visitors who have a connection with the museum’s academic staff.
- For portrait photography when the subject has either appeared at the Glyptotek (e.g. in a performance or recital) or has other relevant connections to the museum.
A Permit for Photography Using a Stand Will NOT be Issued:
- When the purpose is the marketing of any product whatsoever.
- For portrait photography of individual people or groups who have no relevance to the museum’s activity as a cultural organisation (e.g. wedding couples or bands).
- When the intention is to use the museum’s collections or rooms as a setting for recordings of any kind that have no relevance to the museum.
- When it is a case of recording with a view to print or digital publishing which has no connection with the museum (photos of works of art of permanent exhibits are available on request from the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek).
