Sculpture Mania – Carl’s Grand Passion

Guided tour in English: 22 June at 12.00 p.m.
The story of the Glyptotek is inextricably bound up with brewing magnate Carl Jacobsen’s love of sculpture. He fell in love first with La Musique – a beautiful, nearly nude woman of marble, playing the violin, the work of the French salon artist Eugène Delaplanche. It is with her that the adventure began and the infatuations took hold, running side by side with Carl’s collecting mania. In 1888 he donated his enormous collection of sculpture and other art to the Danish state and thus planted the seeds of what would grow into the Glyptotek, which today houses a world-class collection of sculpture from antiquity and ancient Egypt, as well as French and Danish sculpture from the 19th and 20th centuries. The guided tour takes you round the whole museum, giving us the chance to focus closely on some of the Glyptotek’s absolute highlights.

Free admission to the museum. Tickets for the guided tour: 25 DKK each

There are a limited number of tickets for the guided tours. They cannot be reserved in advance but should be collected from the ticket desk on the day.
