The ibis, along with the baboon, was devoted to the moon, wisdom and physician God Thot. Egyptians offered Ibis and baboon figures to Thot’s temples. It was thought that Thot would live in the figures and thus be present during the ceremonies that the priests performed in the temples to serve the god.
