Bust of Queen Nefertiti, wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1340 BC. Her name, which means “A beautiful woman has come”, refers to the goddess Hathor. The bust is made of limestone which is covered with modeled plaster. The eye is inlaid with crystal and the pupil attached with black colored wax. The second eye inlay was never performed.

The bust was found in 1912 during the excavations in the town of Achet-Aton, known today as Amarna.

Reproduction patinated by hand. Mold made from an imprint of the original work exhibited in Berlin.
