Special Exhibitions

This summer you can see three special exhibitions at the Glyptotek.

The song is the call and the land is calling

The Glyptotek and Copenhagen Contemporary present the exhibition The song is the call and the land is calling by the Palestinian artist-duo Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme. Unfolding as immersive multi-layered media installations, the exhibition takes a deep dive into the profound connection between cultural heritage and identity and delve into themes of belonging and self-determination amid histories of loss and displacement.

The joint exhibition takes place simultaneously at both Copenhagen Contemporary and the Glyptotek. The exhibition marks the second instalment of a three-year collaboration between CC and the Glyptotek.

Kai Nielsen – Born of Everyday Life

You have probably already met The Water Mother, who welcomes visitors to the Glyptotek from her pool in the Winter Garden. The Danish sculptor Kai Nielsen (1882-1924) created the work specially for the Glyptotek. Nielsen’s works will form the focal point for a collaborative exhibition project involving Faaborg Museum and the Glyptotek – two special exhibitions, which will run in parallel at the two museums. Look forward to experiencing Nielsen’s works on various scales – from monumental sculptures to exquisite statuettes.

After Nature

“Nature no longer exists. That wild, untamed nature, untouched by human beings, is a thing of the past.” So states the author Josefine Klougart in her essay After Nature. Explore highlights from the Glyptotek’s painting collection in the critically acclaimed exhibition of the same name, where Josefine Klougart’s texts engage with the Glyptotek’s paintings.

Summer Workshop for Children

At the Glyptotek, children and their adults can explore the museum’s collections together.

Every weekend and every day during the summer holidays, a workshop will pop up in the Winter Garden. Here, children and their adults can create paper sculptures using various types of paper, rubber bands, etc. You can fold, crumple, and tear, and our hosts are ready to give you tips and inspiration.

You can display the sculptures in the Paper-Glyptotek or take them with you, when you leave.

Every day from 11 AM – 3 PM (except Mondays) from June 29 – August 11.

Twice a day (at 11:30 AM and 2 PM), you can join an inspiration tour among the museum’s sculptures with a host.

The tours are free with museum admission. Tickets cannot be pre-booked but can be picked up at the ticket office on the day. Tickets are not issued to groups of more than five.
