Many of the 20th century European works of art in the Glyptotek were acquired in the 1940s and 1950s by the Danish artist Richard Winther, often directly from the artists themselves. The collection comprises works by Arp, Giacometti, Max Ernst, Kandinsky, Man Ray and Picasso. The Glyptotek has also continued its acquisition of French sculpture, including several works by Maillol.
